About The Characters

yes these three

You may noticed that these guys --and a girl- keep appearing in this blog;

they are the spotlights of my current small personal project CSPP for short then.

So far, I'm working on the girl's rendering and done with the guy on left -

I'm leaving the main guy for last, since I think I'll enjoy rendering him the most.

As usual this trio is following the common trope of long-time friends since small,

though they (left guy and right girl) have potential to be deuteragonists.

Boy

Not Charles

It's super hard to design this boy and the girl, he caused me to spend lots of papers.

Lots of em. And that I still keep calling him "Charles" even though

I've decided to change his name.

initial roughs

He supposed to look normal enough; a boy who still know how to dress himself

without overdoing it.He has rivalry with the girl, just name her "Kelly"

because that's what I did so far and supposedly subtle inferior complex to the other guy.

His right eye? He's blind on that since birth, so he's used to it.

Girl

kellygirl

One prominent character - competitive, very competitive. If I may say, it's almost like she's a feminist.

So her design should be strong yet people can still see she's from a higher-class family

since her parents would still educate and dress her so...which is quite a challenge for me, again.

Plain Guy

Because he has almost no interest at dressing himself up, can't help but call him this.

He's taken from another story so it's much more easier to design him.

He's one-two years senior from Charles and Kelly, he's someone who's not too imaginative-

more oriented to excel at what's given straight to him; like getting a job after graduating

and get married after that, he has that kind of mindset.

Extras

These are how I normally sketch

Scanned Image 7 Scanned Image 8

with those pens that has multi colors on em, since it's super practical.

Now you should know why I'm shy-ing away from scanning them.

Choosing Characters Design

As you guys might notice from skimming through/scrolling down this blog --there's a particular personal project I'm working on. It's intended to be something small and short; only to add a more complete stuff in my portfolio together with my friends --at first guys from 3D Animation major-- it's only a short simple interactive stuff. Tldr; so far, only the basic character designs and the scenario drafts are achieved, and the style went thru many changes. At first they're going to be more cartoony, then evolves to look like my style in the first place. Here are the past sketches: Picture 22 Screen shot 2012 05 10 at 3 59 50 PM They're the very first tries to grasp what they'll look like. Picture 6 Picture 7 Picture 9 Picture 11 Picture 12 While after lots of papers used to make them look more refined and my own attempt to keep them simple -- having less characters and easily understood plot. I decided to take out few designs like: Picture 10 The original guide-like character for the player and the first design of this girl Picture 13 to make her have more relation with the designed main character. Ergo, the silhouettes from past post happened And personally, I think it cleared up the direction of design more

Making of Acquaintances' Children

Experiment on more complicated shading on clothes.
This was drawn together with previous post, but started later. And since, I feel the need to
finish stuffs in the order I start them, this was done later.

Thankfully this one has more bright colors than how the last one turned out :D

Making of "Trigger Echo"

Sketch that went wild -- AKA finished.
Done as a training to draw characters with different face characteristics and experimenting with another way to make the darker areas.

It took more time than usual, but looks more fancy in my personal opinion; inspired by Richard--something's color, though my coloring looks duller :/ might be because of the B&W base.

Some of these characters have been drawn in different way before:

2 May 2012

Bi-monthly update now? Most of these are done on April though.

Shirow Miwa's DOGS' main characters; Naoto and Heine -- or Haine
You can check his pixiv here

He's basically my god at drawing lines, it's super crisp and stylish.

WIP shot:

Experiment on working without grayscale step, I ended up adjusting it to grayscale before
editing and re-coloring it since it looks weird.

Sketch turned quite finished, done in the midst of commission.

Another guy with fancy colors combination.
